forgetmenot-please.com
A site to help Reunion coordinators gather and manage data from their classmates or extended family members for the purpose of engaging as many members as possible, whether they can attend planned functions or not.
It is a daunting task to arrange and collect data to put together a Reunion. You have to find competent people with experience with data manipulation and graphic skills.
Let's face it ...
I think it's natural to be curious about people you meet as you pass through life. I find it unsettling to have to wait until you can read an acquaintance's obituary before discovering what was important to them in their lives and the things you might have had in common that you could have connected with them over. Everybody's life is interesting and there are more people out there that care about you than you can possibly imagine.
Why do this ?
What's the goal?
To come up with a way to make it easy for reunion coordinators and make it easy for them to gather necessary data so they can put together a multi-page PDF or speadsheet to share or manage member information with the intention of maintaining or building community or family within their group.
What's the catch?
Sorry to disappoint, but there is no catch. Data collection is a free service I'm offering. If your organization has the talent and software available to take the data gathered and manipulate it into a multi-page PDF or spreadsheet to share with reunion members, that's great, and I feel good that I can take a little heavy lifting off your shoulders. If you need help after data is collected, we can talk about that if needed.
What's the plan?
• It starts with a data collection APP that is accessed from a private web address. I assume your Alumni Department or Family records can provide you with member contact information. For a reunion, typically a mailing/email is made to probable attendees. The web APP has a series of common questions that are typically asked during a face-to-face conversations. They are also the questions everyone is curious knowing about their past classmates/family members. The APP can be customized and questions can be changed to suit the situation.
• After the user fills out the form and it is submitted, the data is saved to a file for later processing. The APP can be accessed from a SmartPhone, Tablet, or Desktop. I realize that people are trying to replace desktop computers with SmartPhones but, inputting text is a lot easier if you can work with a simple word processing program and then cut and paste answers into the APP. That gives you a lot more time to think through the questions clearly. There are no data limits to what can be submitted and there are no "required" fields. In a project I'm currently working on, I'm requesting to be emailed current photos so I can incorporate those with the answers coming in from the APP.
• I need one person in your group that I can give access to the incoming data to so that it can be worked on as it comes in rather than waiting until a 'deadline' is reached and then have to deal with possibly 100's of records all at one time. In the case of a reunion, the end-game would probably be a multipage PDF whose link is given to everyone who took the time to submit information.
